Runyan Attends Groundbreaking Ceremony for CERDEC Flight Activity at JB MDL

Apr 11, 2014

LAKEHURST, NJ- Today, Congressman Jon Runyan (NJ-03) attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the new home of the U.S. Army’s Communications-Electronics Research and Development Center (CERDEC) Flight Activity at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB MDL).

“I was honored to be a part of today’s groundbreaking ceremony at the Joint Base,” said Runyan. “Since being elected, I have been a strong supporter of improving infrastructure at JB MDL, and it is great to be able to witness the start of the new Army Flight Complex, which I supported and helped secure through the FY13  NDAA as a member of the House Armed Services Committee.  As I head into my final NDAA this year, I will continue to be a loud voice on behalf of JB MDL.”

The Military Construction (MilCon) funding was authorized by the FY13 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).  This $47 million project will provide the Base with a state of the art Aviation Modification, Research, Development and Maintenance Facility allowing the CERDEC Flight Activity to continue the mission of providing Aviation Expertise, Resources and Integration experience as it has performed for over 60 continuous years.

For the past 50 years the CERDEC Flight Activity has been headquartered in Hangar 5 in Lakehurst.  This hangar, designed for the Navy’s Antisubmarine Blimp Fleet during WWII, has served the Flight Activity well, but modern requirements dictate a modern facility.  Within two years the CERDEC Flight Activity will move its headquarters and core mission functions into the new Facility, and be poised to support the Soldier for another 50 years.
