Runyan Jobs Legislation

There has been a lot of debate on what Congress has done to help unemployed Americans get back to work. I have supported and voted for more than 30 bills that would help create American job opportunities. Unfortunately 28 of these bills have not been acted upon by the United State Senate.

Among these bills is H.R. 1070, the Small Company Capital Formation Act which would help small businesses obtain access to the capital that is vital to their growth and ultimate success.  The House also passed H.R. 527, the Regulatory Flexibility Improvements Act which would eliminate burdensome red tape that prevents small businesses from growing.

In December I hosted a Defense Small Business Roundtable Discussion as part of my duties as a member of the House Armed Services Committee Panel on Business Challenges within the Defense Industry. A number of local small businesses who do business with the Department of Defense came together with Members of Congress to discuss what problems the businesses face when dealing with DoD procurement. I look forward to my continued work with this panel on ways we can improve New Jersey’s economy by helping these businesses thrive so they can create the jobs New Jersey workers need.

As a member of the Natural Resources Committee I have had the opportunity to introduce 2 key pieces of legislation that would help New Jersey fishermen and their coastal communities. The first is H.R. 1664, the American Angler Preservation Act, which aims to amend the federal laws governing fisheries. The bill would bring transparency and accountability to the fisheries management process by ending the government’s overly cautious decisions based on bad science and poor statistical data.

The second bill is H.R. 2772, the bipartisan saving Fishing Jobs Act of 2011, aims to re-evaluate the process of instituting catch share programs. My bill would require the Secretary of Commerce to terminate a catch share program if it reduces the total number of fishermen in the program by 15% or more. The bill would also, among other provisions, give local fishermen the opportunity to vote for or against catch share programs via a referendum vote.

These are just a few of the steps I have taken to help create jobs here in New Jersey and across the country. If you would like to see the other job creation bills that I have voted for and support please follow this link – Runyan Supported Jobs Bills
