Honorable Mark Sanford

Representing the 1st District of South Carolina

Internships

Throughout the year, our offices in Mt. Pleasant, Beaufort, and Washington offer semester long internships where students can gain a better understanding of how a congressional office operates. Our interns get an opportunity to work on a number of different activities while part of the team. In the district offices, interns might work on correspondence with constituents, assist staff with case work, or help out with other general office operations. In the Washington office, interns will research issues and prepare briefs for the legislative staff, attend Congressional hearings and events, answer constituent calls, and give tours of the U.S. Capitol. Though our internships are unpaid, I think it’s ultimately a valuable experience in terms of what you have an opportunity to work on first hand.

Our schedule is flexible to accommodate school calendars, but a typical day would run 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM while the House is in session and 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM when we’re out of session. Feel free to reach out to any of my offices if you have any questions about the application process or the internship, contact my office.
