Guthrie Strongly Opposes President's Actions on Immigration

WASHINGTON, D.C.Congressman Brett Guthrie today issued the following statement in advance of President Obama’s address to outline his Executive Order regarding our nation’s immigration laws:

“It is incredibly disheartening that President Obama is once again acting unilaterally and ignoring the legislative process with legally-questionable executive action.  The American people spoke earlier this month and elected a new Congress, whose responsibility it is to update and alter our nation’s laws.  The president’s repeated “go it alone” attitude flies in the face of the will of the American people.

“There is no doubt our immigration system is broken, but the president’s efforts will do nothing to address our most pressing needs.   House Republicans put forward a strategy based on three key principles: establishing a safe and secure border, enforcing immigration laws efficiently and effectively, and reforming our system in order to attract talented and hardworking individuals who are striving to make better lives for themselves.  Congress and the American people firmly believe this process should go through regular order, and the actions the president will take today only hamper our ability to achieve meaningful solutions to our immigration problems.”
