House
Republican's have introduced a “disapproval resolution” that is identical
to the bipartisan resolution that Congressman Peterson sponsored with Republican
Congresswoman JoAnn Emerson (MO-08) and Democrat Congressman Ike Skelton (MO-04)
last week. The bipartisan Peterson-Skelton-Emerson resolution is the
companion to Senator Lisa Murkowski’s resolution in the Senate.
“This
is exactly why we can’t get things done in this town,” Peterson said.
“We’ve already got a bipartisan disapproval resolution, but the Republicans
have decided they want a ‘Republicans-only’ bill — which, by the way, is
exactly the same as our bipartisan bill. This makes no sense and it leaves
me wondering if they honestly want to get something done.”
“Our
resolution is led by a well-respected Republican and a well-respected Democrat
and it’s identical to Senator Murkowski’s bipartisan bill. If the
Republicans really want to solve the problem they should sign onto our
bipartisan bill. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad the House Republicans
have come to the same conclusion that I have, that Congress—not the
EPA—should be making these kinds of decisions,” Peterson added. “I
just hope they actually want to solve the problem.”
