Klobuchar, Franken, Peterson Announce $1.7 Million For Airports In Western Minnesota

WASHINGTON , D.C. [08/12/10] – Today, U.S. Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken (D-Minn.) and Rep. Collin Peterson (D-Minn.) announced that $1,775,947 in federal funding will be going to infrastructure construction at nine airports in northwestern and southwestern Minnesota . The grants will be distributed by the Federal Aviation Administration through the Department of Transportation.

“Thousands of Minnesotans rely on these airports each year to stay connected to the world,” said Sen. Klobuchar. “By investing in our airport infrastructure, we’re promoting economic development and ensuring that Minnesota airports remain first class for years to come.”


“Reliable air travel allows people across Minnesota to travel around the state and around the world,” said Sen. Franken. “It creates local jobs by allowing businesses in small communities to compete in large markets across the country.  This funding will make sure that Minnesotans can travel safely around western Minnesota and beyond.”

 

“These airports are critical links in our region’s transportation infrastructure, and it’s important to keep these facilities in good operating order,” Rep. Peterson said.

The following airports will receive funding:
 
Moorhead Municipal Airport , Moorhead : $44,679 to construct hangar and extend taxiway.
Mahnomen County Airport , Mahnomen: $66,500 to construct fuel farm.
Hutchinson Municipal Airport , Hutchinson : $85,000 to rehabilitate runway.
Chandler Field, Alexandria : $209,000 to rehabilitate terminal building.
Lac qui Parle County Airport , Madison : $160,000 to construct terminal building.
Hector Municipal Airport , Hector: $539,611 to improve runway safety area.
Morris Municipal Airport , Morris: $76,000 to rehabilitate apron and runway.
Thief River Falls Regional Airport, Thief River Falls: $407,360 to improve terminal building, install miscellaneous NAVAIDS, rehabilitate aircraft rescue & firefighting building and update miscellaneous study.
Bemidji Regional Airport , Bemidji : $187,797 to improve terminal building.
