Senator Heidi Heitkamp United States Senator for North Dakota

Fix My Mail: Sign The Petition

In January 2014, Senator Heitkamp launched her Fix My Mail initiative, a grassroots effort to hear from North Dakotans about problems they have encountered with delayed mail delivery and poor service from the U.S. Postal Service. She received stories from more than 140 North Dakotans all across the state, which she then gave to U.S. Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe in March. At that time, the Postal Service committed – in person and in writing to Senator Heitkamp – to improve mail service and delivery throughout the state, including keeping more hours of operation at 30 rural post offices in North Dakota.

But now, the Postal Service is going back on its promise and announced it is planning to reduce the hours of operation at nearly all of these 30 rural post offices in the state, as well as nearly 300 others across North Dakota. This is completely unacceptable. That’s why I’m asking you to please join me in pushing on the Postal Service to reverse this destructive decision that will hurt North Dakota’s families by signing the below petition in protest of the Postal Service’s backhanded decision. The details of your information will be kept secure and confidential.

Fix My Mail: Send Me Your Stories

In addition, Senator Heitkamp has heard too many concerns from North Dakotans about the problems they face getting their mail on time, and it absolutely needs to be fixed.  So let’s talk about it.

Please fill out the below form with your story.  You can also go on Facebook or Twitter and use #FixMyMail to tell your story.  And please encourage others you know who have faced problems with their mail service and standards to join the effort.

Senator Heitkamp is also asking the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) to conduct a study on the postal service standards that customers experience and if that matches with what USPS is reporting.  We’re hearing about terrible delivery times from North Dakotans, but USPS is saying service standards are mostly met.  That doesn’t add up.  Senator Heitkamp’s office will gather these stories and send them to USPS so they can hear the stories firsthand, and send them to GAO to help with the study.  No personal information will be shared with the USPS or GAO, only the stories.

In the map below, the points represent areas where Senator Heitkamp has already received letters of concern from North Dakotans.
