Full Biography

Congresswoman Gloria Negrete McLeod is proud to represent California’s 35th District. The 35th District stretches over two counties encompassing the cities of Chino, Montclair, Ontario, portions of Fontana and Rialto, the unincorporated community of Bloomington in San Bernardino County; and the entire City of Pomona in Los Angeles County.

Congresswoman Negrete McLeod is a member of the historic Committee on Agriculture. The Committee has jurisdiction over agriculture, forestry, nutrition, water conservation, bio-terrorism, and other agriculture-related fields. In addition, the Committee is responsible for oversight of the Department of Agriculture. She is also a member of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs.  This Committee reviews veterans' programs, examines current laws, and reports bills and amendments to strengthen existing laws concerning veterans.

Prior to serving in Congress, Gloria began her career in public service as a board member -- and then president -- of the Chaffey Community College Board before being elected to California’s State Assembly in 2000 and State Senate in 2006. With almost two decades as a locally-elected leader, Gloria has worked to ensure the affordability and access to higher education, enhance the quality of healthcare, improve California’s current transportation system to promote efficient goods movement while reducing traffic congestion and has promoted the growth of quality employment opportunities for residents of the Inland Empire and all of California.

Gloria has been a strong proponent in creating common sense, bipartisan legislation that helps California’s families. As a state legislator, Gloria introduced and passed more than 160 bills that were signed by 3 different governors.  As former Chair of the Public Employment and Retirement Committee, Gloria contributed in the needed reform of California’s Public Pension system saving taxpayers billions of dollars.  Gloria has also been actively involved in the cleanup of groundwater contamination.  A major legislative priority for her has been to improve the quality of California's current water supply to ensure a reliable plan in place that will adequately provide for the State's growing water needs.

Gloria is also an advocate for women.  As former Chair of the California Legislative Women’s Caucus, she worked to ensure that all elected women were unified in the fight to help women and families during tough economic times. As an Assembly and Senate member, Gloria also served on the board of the State of California’s Commission on the Status of Women that exists to advocate for the women and girls of California. The Commission creates a public policy agenda that shows unique ways the state and private sector businesses can better serve the needs of women and families.

Gloria and her husband Gilbert L. McLeod, a retired police lieutenant, have lived in the district for more than 43 years, raising 10 children, 27 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren.
