Economy
Promoting a healthy, vibrant American economy.
There are two very different views in Washington right now about how to promote economic growth. President Obama keeps telling us that government can solve our problems. We’ve tried that. We have more than $5 trillion in new debt thanks to the President's efforts. How much more do taxpayers have to contribute to his vision of big government before he acknowledges it isn’t working?
I believe the American people are the true drivers of success in our country. I was a small businessman in Lubbock for many years before coming to Congress, so I understand how polices from Washington can have a big impact on job growth and investment in local communities.
Right now, businesses are struggling under the tremendous weight of regulations, which hurts their ability to invest in new jobs. The role of the government should be to cultivate an environment where innovation, creativity and expansion are the top concerns for businesses--not red tape. Mandating small businesses spend their limited resources complying with federal regulations only limits their ability to grow our economy.
I will continue working to find ways to support and strengthen the small business sector, where much of the innovation for this country comes from. I look forward to working for and hearing from small businesses within the 19th District.
What to Watch For in 2013
I'll continue working to repeal senseless regulations that hurt business growth.
I've introduced bipartisan legislation to make it easier for farmers to get the fuel they need to plant and harvest crops.
