WASHINGTON — Indiana Rep. Luke Messer was elected Thursday to the No. 5 House GOP leadership slot, a position he said he will use to show Republicans can help working families.

“We need a positive agenda, so we’re not defined by just what we oppose,” Messer said after his colleagues elected him chairman of the House Republican Policy Committee for the next Congress.

Messer called the panel the party's “engine for policy development.”

“It will give our area a bigger voice in the national debate,” the Shelbyville Republican told Indiana reporters.

The Federal Reserve was founded by Congress in 1913 to ensure a safer, more flexible, and more stable monetary and financial system. What that means today is that the Fed has broad authority to set monetary policy and regulate the American financial system.  Its policies have broad economic implications for the nation, and they impact Main Street just as much as Wall Street.

Now that the House leadership elections are over, it's time for another go-round.

At least, that's how Rep. Luke Messer of Indiana sees it. On Thursday, he confirmed he's already running to become the next chairman of the House Republican Policy Committee—the fifth-ranking position in party's leadership ladder.

It's been a wild couple of weeks in Washington for the separation of powers.

First, Speaker John Boehner announced that the House plans to sue the president for violating his oath of office by failing to enforce the law and making his own laws without the consent of Congress. Next, the Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that the president violated the Constitution by making illegal appointments to a federal labor board.

“This is about restoring the balance of powers,” said Congressman Luke Messer during the interview. “The Constitution is very clear: Congress makes the laws.  It’s the Executive’s job to implement them.”
