In Congress and in Massachusetts, Congressman McGovern has been a strong advocate for improving our roads and highways, and increasing access to mass transportation options.

He continues to work for an extension of public rail service throughout Western and Central Massachusetts, and has been a supporter of key funding to improve bus access in Central Massachusetts.

He is also the co-sponsor of legislation designed to keep freight shipped by fuel-efficient and effective trains, and keep dangerous massive freight trucks off the road.

U.S. Rep. James “Jim” McGovern wants to take what Franklin County’s got and give it to the rest of the country. “What I love about the new part of my district is that, out here, people demonstrate how to do things right,” McGovern told a crowd of constituents gathered at Green Fields Market Saturday. His district, largely in Worcester County, grew to include Greenfield and 13 central and eastern Franklin County towns during last year’s federal redistricting. His words referred to the county’s commitment to sustainable living, support of local agriculture and enthusiasm for renewable energies.

Today, Reps. Michael G. Grimm (R-NY), McGovern (D-MA), Peter T. King (R-NY), and Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) were joined by the Commuter Benefits Work for Us Coalition in calling for passage of the Commuter Parity Act of 2013 (H.R 2288). This revenue-neutral bipartisan legislation will establish permanent tax credit parity between the parking and transit/vanpool portions of the transportation fringe benefit.
