Politico - Eshoo's Energy Efficiency Provision for Data Centers Clears House
March 6, 2014By Jessica Meyers
A provision in the energy efficiency bill passed by the House this afternoon would make federal data centers more green — a win for Rep. Anna Eshoo. The measure now heads to the Senate.
The congresswoman, a candidate for ranking member of the House Energy and Commerce committee, sponsored the provision along with House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers. It would require federal agencies to purchase more energy efficient tech, include periodic evaluations, update a report on the issue and create an open data initiative to make data center energy usage more available.
"Today, the world generates more data in two days than has been generated in all of human history prior to 2003," Eshoo said in a statement. "My legislation will save the federal government energy and money by requiring the use of energy-efficient and energy-saving techniques, specifically in federal data centers."
