Foreign Policy

Congressman Connolly is a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, having previously spent 10 years as a staff member working on the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee.  He has visited U.S. troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan and advocated for responsible withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from both nations.

Northern Virginia is fortunate to have a rich, culturally-diverse population, and Congressman Connolly is actively involved with many local ethnic communities. More than one in four residents are foreign born, and a multitude of languages are spoken in local classrooms. Fairfax County is home to the largest concentration of minority-owned technology firms in the nation.

Congressman Connolly is a strong advocate for free and fair trade. He was an early supporter of the Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement and played a key role in urging the Administration and Congressional leaders to complete this vital agreement, as well as Free Trade Agreements with Colombia and Panama. He currently serves as co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Korea, the Congressional Caucus on Turkey and Turkish Relations and co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Taiwan. He has been a leading advocate for human rights in North Korea and Vietnam. Congressman Connolly has also introduced the Global Partnerships Act that will bring additional transparency and efficiency to U.S. foreign assistance.
