Reducing the Deficit
Before coming to Congress in 2009, Congressman Connolly served 14 years in local government, where he helped balance the budget every year and made Fairfax County the Best Managed large county in the nation.
In Congress, he has co-sponsored Pay-As-You-Go legislation (H.R. 2920 / H.J.Res. 45) to ensure that new spending is offset and does not add to the deficit. In 2011, Congressman Connolly re-introduced legislation (H.R. 1043) to grant the President expedited rescission authority to fast-track further spending cuts. Congressman Connolly voted to improve the federal acquisition process, which will save more than $300 billon (S. 454), and has voted against hundreds of billions in spending that would add to the deficit. In addition, he voted twice to block increases in pay for Members of Congress (H.R. 1105 and H.R. 5146).
