Congressman Marino Appointed to Key Chairmanship of House Judiciary Subcommittee

Washington D.C.—Congressman Tom Marino, PA-10, Lycoming County was named Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Regulatory Reform, Commercial and Antitrust Law by Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA-06) to fill the leadership position vacated by retiring Chairman Spencer Bachus (R-AL-06). Marino’s service to the subcommittee will begin at the commencement of the 114th Congress in January 2015.

The Subcommittee on Regulatory Reform, Commercial and Antitrust Law consists of 10 members, representing both parties, and has jurisdiction over, “bankruptcy and commercial law, bankruptcy judgeships, administrative law, independent counsel, state taxation affecting interstate commerce, interstate compacts, antitrust matters, other appropriate matters as referred by the Chairman, and relevant oversight.”

Representative Marino issued the following statement regarding his appointment to this important leadership position:

“I am deeply appreciative of Chairman Goodlatte and honored to serve the Judiciary Committee in this capacity. Under his leadership I have grown to better appreciate just how important this committee is in addressing some of the most pressing issues our nation is facing right now. We have excellent membership on the committee with some of the most dedicated and talented representatives in Congress. I am very excited to continue to work with them in the 114th.

The Subcommittee on Regulatory Reform, Commercial and Antitrust Law is a vital component of the Judiciary Committee’s legislative agenda. The legislation coming out of this committee has broad implications for the entire nation and especially within my District. This is where my RAPID Act legislation, which passed the House, came from and while it unfortunately remains on Harry Reid’s desk with no action, we will get it moving again because excess and abuse of federal regulation has stifled our economy for too long.

Farmers, small business owners, energy producers, community banks and emerging technology industries all suffer from duplicative or onerous regulation. Reforms are needed. In the coming year my colleagues and I will work diligently and maintain our determination to ensure the legislation coming out of our subcommittee will benefit every American and streamline an overly invasive regulatory structure.”

Judiciary Chairman Goodlatte said the following of Marino’s appointment:

“I am extremely pleased that Tom has agreed to serve as the Chairman of the Regulatory Reform, Commercial and Antitrust Law subcommittee. This important subcommittee has broad jurisdiction over legal and regulatory reform and competition and anti-trust laws.

As the lead sponsor of the RAPID Act, which opens opportunities for Americans to find work while building our nation’s infrastructure for the future, Tom has proven himself as a leader who will play an important role in helping to advance the Judiciary Committee’s pro-growth agenda."
