Defense and National Security

The United States Constitution makes it clear that one of the primary responsibilities of Congress and the federal government is to provide for the common defense. Safeguarding freedom, protecting our homeland, and securing our borders must always be a top priority.

We are living through dangerous times, and I will never underestimate the seriousness of the threats we face from hot spots all around the world. America must stand firm and united against those who would do us harm. We must maintain the greatest military the world has ever seen. And finally, we must adapt to the unique challenges we face in the 21st Century.

At all times, we need to guard against acts of terrorism, cyber-attacks, drug trafficking, illegal immigration, and all other potential threats. While I am a strong proponent of reducing government spending, we cannot undermine the commitments we have made to our troops, our allies, and to defend our nation from foreign enemies.

The nature of the threats we face is constantly changing and our national security strategies and defense policies should reflect this reality. As the world’s lone superpower, we have a unique opportunity to ensure our freedom and our way of life is protected.
