Every American deserves an environmental and energy future that promotes our good health and well-being. We have a responsibility to be careful stewards of our precious natural resources to ensure that we leave clean air and water, and healthy, vibrant ecosystems for generations to come.
Now is the time for America to be at the forefront of the global community in discovering, developing, and commercializing clean energy technologies. Putting America on a path toward energy independence is in our best environmental, economic and national security interests. That’s why I support significant and sustained investment in research and development that will propel our country toward energy independence, including:
- Improving energy efficiency
- Saving families and businesses money on energy costs
- Spurring innovation and creating good-paying energy jobs
- Lessening our reliance on foreign energy, and
- Reducing the carbon pollution that causes global warming

While some activists search across the globe for ways to protect our natural resources, one 2nd Congressional District constituent is leading a crusade for clean waterways right here in the Chicago Southland.
Michael Taylor of Richton Park has been in love with the water from a young age. However, it wasn’t until he docked his powerboat and started kayaking that he noticed some environmental issues right in his backyard.
