4th District

“The 4th District has a proud tradition of innovation and a work ethic that has fueled economic growth for generations. From our top-tier education facilities and advanced manufacturers to our emerging biotech industry and unparalleled health care providers: that continued commitment to economic ingenuity is what will drive our future.”

– Congressman Joe Kennedy

From the jewelry makers of Attleboro to the first mills of the Blackstone Valley and the historic textile manufacturers of Fall River: the Fourth District of Massachusetts has a rich tradition of economic innovation stretching back to the Industrial Revolution. Today, the district continues to lead the way in advanced manufacturing, clean energy, health care, education and other critical 21st century industries.

The diverse district stretches from Brookline, Newton, and the western suburbs of Boston down to Taunton, Fall River, and the state’s South Coast. It encompasses 34 cities and towns, with a population of 725,000.

Home to globally-recognized companies like Ocean Spray, the growing Myles Standish Industrial Park, and the planned UMass Bio Park, the 4th District is ripe with economic opportunity. Across the district, businesses big and small are matching time-honored techniques with unparalleled entrepreneurship —paving the way for industry-leading growth and development.

A hub for higher education and workforce development, the Fourth District includes the following colleges and universities: Babson College, Boston College Law School, Bristol Community College, Dean College, Hebrew College, Hellenic College, Lasell College, Mass Bay Community College, Mount Ida College, Newbury College, New England Institute of Art, Olin College, Pine Manor College, Stonehill College, Wellesley College, and Wheaton College.

The Fourth District also boasts several significant historical and cultural touchstones for Massachusetts and the greater New England area, including Battleship Cove in Fall River, home to the USS Massachusetts and USS Joseph P. Kennedy, as well as Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, home of the beloved New England Patriots.
