Stand Up for Equality for All Mothers and All Women

This Mother’s Day, let’s honor all the women across our nation with the gift of equality by removing the deadline for states to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA).

I think it’s time to give the ERA another chance and I am not alone.

My resolution – S.J. Res. 15 – has bipartisan support in the Senate and strong support among groups including the National Council of Women's Organizations, United 4 Equality, American Association of University Women, Federally Employed Women, Progressive Democrats of America, National Council of Jewish Women, National Organization of Women (NOW), Feminist Majority, and the U.S. Women’s Chamber of Commerce.  You can now add your name to the growing list of supporters as a Citizen Cosponsor.

Join me in asserting that there should be no deadline when it comes to ensuring equal rights for any American, especially our mothers, sisters, daughters, nieces, aunts and grandmothers.

Today, nearly half of the states have a version of the ERA written into their state constitutions including Maryland. But half is not enough. ERA should be ratified as an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to provide courts with clearer guidance in deciding discrimination cases nationwide.

Women have made tremendous advances, but America still has not realized its promise of equal protection under the law for men and women.

It’s time we change that by removing the deadline for state ratification of the ERA. Sign up as a Citizen Cosponsor by signing up here today.
