Congresswoman Hahn Releases Statement in Wake of Grand Jury Decision in Ferguson

Nov 25, 2014

San Pedro, CA-- Today, Congresswoman Janice Hahn (CA-44) released the following statement regarding a grand jury’s decision to not indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting of Michael Brown. Congresswoman Hahn also joined the community at a special service at the City on the Hill Church in Carson to call for calm.

“I join in calling for calm and peace following the announcement of the grand jury’s decision in Ferguson, MO tonight. While emotions run high and many people disagree with the decision, violence is not the answer. The shooting of Michael Brown has brought to light serious problems that persist in Ferguson and across our country. It is clear that the Ferguson police department must work to earn and build trust with the people they are sworn to protect and must become more representative of the Ferguson community. People have clear cause for frustration. But tonight I hope that we may reflect on the challenges we face and pursue change through peaceful protest and nonviolent demonstration.”
