Representing the 6th District of COLORADO

National Security

The most important role of any government is to protect its citizens.  Keeping the peace by maintaining a strong military is essential to deterring those who would wish to harm us.  Adequate funding for maintaining a strong defense is critical but we must also do it in a smarter way that reduces the waste and delays in our current acquisition process.  Nation building should not be used as a principle tool for achieving America's national security objectives.  Instead, the United States should support factions within a given region that share our security objectives.

“The President is wrong to provide any additional military assistance for the Shia-dominated government of Iraq until there is a process in place to bring about a reconciliation between the government and the disaffected Sunni Arab population.  Additional military assistance, at any level,  prior to this, is fundamentally wrong and will only be seen as the United States intervening in a sectarian civil war.

It is not a well-known fact that the fastest-growing segment of organized crime, as well as the third-largest criminal enterprise in the world, is sex trafficking. And while many believe this is only an international problem that pervades Third World countries, the unfortunate reality is that sex trafficking also occurs here in the United States.
