Art Competition
Each spring, the House of Representatives sponsors a nationwide high school art competition. In Utah, this competition is held in conjunction with the Utah All-State High School Art Show Competition, hosted by the Springville Museum of Art.
Among other things, the winner of the art competition’s piece is displayed for an entire year in the United States Capitol for Members of Congress and visitors to view.
Art submissions may be no larger than 28" x 28" x 4" (including the frame). Anything larger may not be submitted. All entries must be an original in concept, design and execution. Art submissions may be any of the following:
- Paintings - including oil, acrylics, and watercolor
- Drawings - including pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers
- Collage
- Prints - including lithographs, silkscreen, and block prints
- Mixed Media
- Computer Generated Art
- Photography
The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, hundreds of thousands of high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.
