Cassidy Statement on President Obama's Executive Amnesty

Press Release

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Bill Cassidy (R-LA) released the following statement ahead of President Obama’s expected announcement that he will be issuing executive amnesty for up to 5 million illegal immigrants.

Dr. Cassidy released the following statement:

“President Obama is exceeding his Constitutional authority, harming relationships with Congress and with the American people.  The President doesn’t care that a majority of Americans, including Louisiana families, oppose illegal immigration.  He also doesn’t care about offending generations of law-abiding immigrants who followed the law to earn their legal status.  I will continue to oppose amnesty and push to secure our borders.  The President is being irresponsible; we in Congress must be responsible.”

Dr. Cassidy and Senator David Vitter previously introduced a bill to stop the increasing number of illegal aliens from entering the U.S.  The legislation would expedite the deportation process for unaccompanied alien children (UAC), reform existing immigration laws and send a clear message that illegal immigration will not be tolerated.
