Border Security
Securing our borders and enforcing our immigration laws must be one of our top priorities
Dr. Cassidy has consistently opposed amnesty. Those who want to come to America must do so through proper, legal channels.
Recently, Dr. Cassidy introduced legislation with Senator Vitter to stop the increasing number of unaccompanied illegal children (UAC) from entering the U.S. Specifically, it requires the mandatory detention of all UAC, gives them the option to voluntarily depart, places those who refuse in a streamlined removal process while being held at the border, and ensures that all UAC who don’t have an asylum claim are given a final removal order and placed on the next available flight to their home country within 72 hours of the initial screening
Dr. Cassidy voted against the DREAM Act in 2010, and has spoken out against the Senate’s immigration plan passed in June, 2013, which granted temporary legal status to illegal immigrants. He also opposed President Obama’s $3.7 billion request to address the immigration crisis.
Dr. Cassidy is a member of the Congressional Border Security Caucus and has the highest rating from Numbers USA of all Members in the Louisiana House Congressional Delegation.
