Internships
My office is currently accepting resumes from college-age individuals interested in interning in my Washington, D.C., Cedar Rapids, and Waterloo offices this summer.
All internships are unpaid and candidates who are chosen for the Washington, D.C. office may be responsible for paying their travel and living expenses. However, interns in any office can arrange to receive academic credit for their work. My internship program is open to all area college students, regardless of major.
Program Information
Congressman Braley seeks interns for Washington D.C. office, as well as his district offices in Davenport, Dubuque and Waterloo. Interns should possess an interest in the legislative process, as well as strong written and verbal communications skills. Congressional Interns are unpaid, but school credit can be earned through participating universities. Internships are available year-round. Preference will be given to those available full-time, but part-time internships may be available.
Washington D.C. Internships
Internships in Washington D.C. provide students with hands-on experience in the legislative process. Intern duties include answering constituent phone calls, researching legislative issues and assisting with correspondence to constituents. Interns will also have opportunities to attend guest speakers, congressional hearings and tour historic sites. Interns in the Washington, D.C. office will have an opportunity to work closely with the legislative, communications and constituent services staff members.
Iowa District Office Internships
Interns in the Iowa District offices assist with constituent services work including community outreach, constituent casework and general office duties. By assisting the Congressman's district staff, interns have the opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge about how a Congressional office provides constituent services and interacts with the community.
