Human Life

I believe that all human life is sacred and begins at conception.  The question is not whether a woman has the right to choose what to do with her body.  Instead, the question is, at what point does a woman’s right to choose interfere with a child’s right to life?  The child’s life supersedes a woman’s right to choose in regard to abortion.  Unborn children should be welcomed in life and protected by law.  That being the case, as a nation that values every individual’s right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, we should always choose on the side of life.

Because I am committed to the protection of human life, I do not support technology which utilizes embryonic stem cell research.  Current technologies have made embryonic stem cell research unnecessary.  In addition, I believe that taxpayer money should never be used to subsidize abortion, as is the case in Obamacare.  And finally, I would support a human life amendment to the Constitution.

While I am unashamedly pro-life, I do recognize that this is not a simple issue.  There are numerous circumstances where a woman or young girl is not prepared or able to take on the responsibilities of raising a child. That being the case, being pro-life means more than just protesting against abortion.  It also means looking at issues like adoption and foster care and doing what we can to protect children both before and after their birth.

As the father of three beautiful and precious children, I cannot begin to express what a great blessing they are.  Even children who are conceived in less than ideal and even terrible circumstances deserve the right to become a blessing to someone, and that is why I will continue to fight for their right to life in whatever way I can.

I am committed to advancing pro-life legislation in the House of Representatives.  Here are some of the bills I have co-sponsored with my conservative colleagues this Congress:
