Carson Statement on the Resignation of Defense Secretary Hagel

Washington, D.C. – Congressman André Carson issued the following statement in response to the announcement that Charles “Chuck” Hagel will step down as Secretary of Defense once a successor is confirmed:

“As the 24th Secretary of Defense, Chuck Hagel has worked each and every day to protect and ensure the safety of our country. As a decorated Vietnam War veteran, president of the World USO, Deputy Administrator of the Department of Veterans Affairs, Senator, and Secretary of Defense, Hagel’s career has been filled with public service and advocacy on behalf of our men and women in uniform.

“As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I have always appreciated Secretary Hagel’s honest assessment and advice, especially in difficult circumstances.

“I am grateful for his leadership and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
