About Louisiana

The Sportsman's Paradise

Louisiana is a unique state with rich heritage, distinct culture and obviously delicious food, that make me proud to call it home.

Our state has a multicultural, multilingual heritage beginning in the 18th century with French, Spanish, Native American and African populations. Louisiana became a part of the United States through the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. It was admitted to the Union in 1812 as the 18th state.

Louisiana, known as the Sportsman’s Paradise, is home to 22 state parks, 17 state historic sites, and a preservation area. We’re the biggest supplier of crawfish in the world, and our other major industries include energy, agriculture, tourism and believe it or not - film.

Louisiana’s capital is Baton Rouge and its largest city is New Orleans. Louisiana is the only state to divide local governments into parishes. There are 64 parishes in Louisiana. Louisiana is represented in the United States Congress by two Senators and six Congressmen in the House of Representatives.
