Donnelly kicked off the State Work Period during the first week of August with two “Donnelly Days,” an ongoing series of events in which he works alongside Hoosiers in a variety of jobs and professions in communities across Indiana. First, Donnelly worked on the line installing awnings and lights on RVs at Thor Industries in Elkhart. Next, he was trained in sanding techniques for the aircraft strip and paint services industry at Dean Baldwin Painting in Peru.  Donnelly then hosted a U.S. Senate Committee on Aging field hearing at the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis on consumer fraud and scams targeting seniors. He also spent time that week touring local businesses in Zionsville.

Then, Donnelly launched his Farm Bill Tour to discuss the implementation of the bipartisan five-year Farm Bill he helped pass earlier this year, with Hoosier farmers and businesses. Donnelly discussed conservation, economic growth, and other agriculture issues with farmers, researchers, and agri-business owners.

Later in August, during his Ohio River Tour, Donnelly traveled to 13 counties across southern Indiana. Donnelly discussed economic development, job creation, and other local issues with area businesses and organizations.

In early September, Donnelly hosted U.S. Secretary of Labor Tom Perez for a series of visits with Indiana workers, students, and employers to discuss and highlight some of the innovative job training approaches in the Indianapolis area. Together they visited Pike High School to talk with teachers, employers, and students about workforce development. Then they visited the Walsh Construction site at the 465-65 interchange to meet with workers and labor leaders. Donnelly and Perez ended the day at Allison Transmission, working a “Donnelly Day” at three stations at the transmission plant, including running the pinion gear cell, gaging parts, and working on the main assembly line to put together transmissions.

Also in early September, Donnelly and WFYI hosted a screening and discussion in Indianapolis of part of the documentary series, “Coming Back with Wes Moore” on servicemembers’ transition home from war.
