(U.S. SENATE) – Senator John Walsh congratulated Montana Tech of the University of Montana in Butte and Carroll College in Helena for their recent recognition from national news organizations.

The Washington Postthis week named Montana Tech the sixth in the country in terms of highest starting salary for alumni. For the fourth year in a row, U.S. News and World Report ranked Carroll College the top regional college in the west and the second best value in the west.

“I am glad that the nation recognizes what Montanans already know to be true: our institutions of higher learning are some of the best in the world,” Walsh said. “I will continue to fight to ensure all Montanans have the chance to attend one of our wonderful schools and stay in Montana after graduation.”

Walsh has worked to make college a more affordable reality for all Montana students. He is supporting legislation that would allow students to refinance their loans at a lower rate. Walsh also sponsored a measure that would create a fixed rate for student loan payments.

Earlier this year, Walsh toured Montana’s college system to speak directly to students and administrators. He held roundtables discussions at the University of Montana, Blackfeet Community College, Montana State University, and Montana State University - Billings.
