Each spring, the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives sponsor a nation-wide high school arts competition. This Congressional Art Competition as an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in our Congressional district. This initiative of the U.S. Congress was started in 1982 and since then, more than 650,000 high schools students have had the opportunity to express their artistic abilities to the United States’ public.

All high school students living within Tennessee’s Seventh Congressional District are encouraged and eligible to participate in this competition. The winning piece of artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year, along with the winners from each Congressional district across the country.

Artwork submitted to our office must be two dimensional, no larger than 28 inches by 28 inches, and no deeper than 4 inches. The following artistic media is acceptable:

  • Paintings-including oil, acrylics, and watercolors
  • Drawings-including pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers
  • Collage
  • Prints-including lithographs, silkscreen, block prints
  • Mixed Media
  • Computer Generated Art
  • Photography
