High School Senior Internship Program:

The Office of U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI) has initiated a Hawai‘i High School internship program known as “Schatz Seniors.” The program is one of the few high school internship programs in the U.S. Senate.  The Senator is  looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated, and involved high school seniors for internships statewide. Public, private, charter and homeschool seniors may apply.  Students will be selected based on their involvement in their community (jobs, activities, and responsibilities), diversity of interests and life experiences, and demonstrated leadership involvement.  The internship runs from November 2014 – April 30, 2015 and interns must commit for the full term.

The purpose of this internship is to provide a hands-on learning opportunity about the U.S. Senate, to create a forum for students to share issues and information with the Senator and his staff, and to encourage students to be leaders and advocates in their schools and communities. Activities will involve working with outreach staff on community visits with the Senator, identifying issues of interest in their school and community, and attending and staffing special events. This is not an office position and students should miss little or no class time in performing the tasks or assignments related to the program.

The application is available below and must be completed no later than October 17, 2014.  Selected students will be notified in late-October.

Our staff is glad to come speak at high schools or school associations about the program. Please contact our Honolulu office at 808-523-2061.
