Building Keystone XL Pipeline to Become Energy Secure
Last week, thanks to support from both Democrats and Republicans, the Senate Energy Committee passed my bill to immediately green-light construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.
The Keystone XL pipeline is in our national interest. The current unrest in Iraq underscores the need to move away from relying on energy sources in unstable parts of the world.
Last week, al-Qaeda affiliated militants attacked the largest oil refinery in Iraq that refines 350,000 barrels of oil per day—nearly the same amount the United States imports from Iraq. The Keystone Pipeline would transport nearly two and a half times that amount to American refineries and support thousands of American jobs.
The construction of the Keystone pipeline will send a message to other countries that the United States intends to rely on energy from our allies like Canada.
I am urging my colleagues to support my bill to immediately being building the Keystone XL pipeline. Last month, I said that the battle to build the Keystone Pipeline was not over. This was the latest skirmish, and, unlike some, I'm not giving up until it is built
