Senator Coons joined members of Delaware’s Ducks Unlimited Chapter to welcome visiting DU National CEO Dale Hall, Board President George Dunklin, and DU of Mexico Board President John Tomke to Delaware at a barbeque dinner on September 4, 2013 in Dover.
Senator Coons teamed up with the two officers shot at the New Castle County Courthouse in February to urge Congress to reauthorize the federal Bulletproof Vest Partnership. The press conference was held on May 31, 2013 on the steps of the New Castle County Courthouse in Wilmington.

Senator Chris Coons, a leading Senate voice on the critical role the National Guard plays in our security, received the National Guard Association of the United States’ Charles Dick Medal of Merit on Saturday at Dover Downs. The prestigious award, also given to Governor Jack Markell, was presented at the Delaware National Guard’s Annual Senior Leaders Conference on January 12, 2013.
Senator Coons joined members of the University of Delaware community at the unveiling of the Horn Initiative for Entrepreneurship on October 12, 2012. The Horn Initiative is anticipated to have a transformative impact on innovation and entrepreneurship through the expansion of curricular, co-curricular and outreach programing. At the event, aspiring entrepreneurs pitched their business ideas to try to win funding as part of the launch celebration. University of Delaware alumnus Charles Horn (’75) and his wife Patricia Horn committed $3 million for the initiative, which will be housed in the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics.

David Spicer at an event in the Capitol on Tuesday to mark the purchase of the one-millionth bulletproof vest by a law enforcement officer under the federal Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Program.
On October 11, 2012, Senator Coons hosted David Kappos, the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, for a discussion with doctoral candidates at the University of Delaware and Delaware State University about commercializing technology developed at universities. Senator Coons is a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and was a cosponsor of the America Invents Act, the 2011 legislation that radically modernized the patent system. Under Secretary Kappos advises the President, the Secretary of Commerce and the Administration on intellectual property matters.
