Coats Statement on Proposed EPA Ozone Rule

INDIANAPOLIS –Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.) today released the following statement after the Obama Administration announced a draft air pollution rule by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to limit smog-creating ozone:
“Today’s proposal to update the National Ambient Air Quality Standards for Ozone will stifle economic growth and increase energy prices,” said Coats. “Although the Administration withdrew a similar proposal three years ago because of the devastating economic impact it would have on hardworking Americans, its reemergence is additional evidence that the Administration is more interested in pandering to environmental extremists than doing what is best for Hoosiers. We need balanced regulations that keep our air clean without bankrupting our future.”
The EPA’s previously proposed smog-creating ozone rule would have been, by its own figures, the most costly EPA rule in history.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court announced it would review the Obama Administration’s Mercury and Air Toxics Standard (MATS) for emissions from coal and oil fired power plants.
