Economy & Jobs

For much of our nation’s history, Ohio’s talented workforce has built the cars and appliances and laid down the rail lines and roads that connected our shores and expanded our economy.  Ohio’s manufacturers, small businesses, farmers, and entrepreneurs helped turn our nation into an economic superpower.  As a result, wages climbed, productivity increased, and more people became part of the middle class.

As we recover from the worst recession since the Great Depression, I will continue to fight for economic policies that strengthen Ohio’s middle class – that create jobs, rebuild American manufacturing, invest in our small businesses, and train workers for new opportunities in new industries.

Jobs

Our state has rich manufacturing heritage and network of innovative small businesses. I’ve traveled across our state to facilitate partnerships that advance a “Made in Ohio” agenda that puts Ohioans to work in the good-paying manufacturing jobs in the auto, aerospace, biotech, and clean energy industries. I’m also working to ensure that our state’s small businesses – which create nearly two-thirds of new jobs – have the resources they need to expand operations and hire new workers.

We need a jobs agenda that:

  • Promotes the expansion of Ohio businesses by strengthening small business lending programs and boosting U.S. exports.
  • Develops Ohio's workforce so that Ohioans are prepared to fill the jobs of the 21st century and revitalizes the state's infrastructure to attract those global industries.
  • Ensures that Ohio industry isn't undermined by unfair trade by pursuing remedies to counteract China's currency manipulation and subsidization of domestic industries.
