When I came to DC, I got to work on a promise to close the Medicare "doughnut hole" -- a policy which left thousands of seniors paying the full cost of prescription drugs -- and in 2010, I helped pass legislation to do just that.
I’m glad to tell you that in 2012, as a result of this law, nearly 14,000 Rhode Islanders saved a total of more than $8 million through prescription drug discounts.
What has the closing of the Medicare Part D doughnut hole meant to you? Please share your story below.
While I'm glad I was able to help close the doughnut hole, too many of my colleagues in the Senate still don’t see the value of this law. Some have even argued for a repeal of this important law.
I need your help to change their minds. If you or someone you know has struggled with the high cost of prescription drugs under the Medicare doughnut hole, please share your story below.
