Senate Democrats Host Roundtable with Conservation Advocates

SENATE DEMOCRATS HOST ROUNDTABLE WITH CONSERVATION ADVOCATES

Washington, D.C. – Today, Senate Democrats met with stakeholders of the sportsmen and conservation community.  The discussion focused on policies that protect habitats, expand conservation programs, promote recreational activities, and preserve our nation’s outdoor heritage for future generations.  Senate Democrats also reaffirmed their support for the “Bipartisan Sportsmen Act of 2014,” which comprehensively addresses hunting, fishing and conservation priorities.

“There is nowhere else like Alaska when it comes to our culture of understanding and relying on hunting, fishing, and our natural resources,” said Senator Mark Begich (D-AK), Chairman of the Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee. “Alaskans know first-hand that what we need is less red tape and more common-sense policies to protect our way of life and create more jobs in our communities and that’s why I am glad that we had leaders from 10 states participate in today’s discussion about just that.”

Nationally, hunting and fishing are a valuable part of our outdoor heritage and our economy.  Nearly half of all Americans participate in outdoor activities, spending $646 billion on outdoor recreation every year, supporting more than 6.1 million sustainable American jobs and generating nearly $80 billion in Federal, State and local tax revenue.  Senate Democrats will continue to focus on issues important to the millions of American sportsmen.
