Senate Democrats Meet with Women Business Leaders

meet with Women Business Leaders

Washington DC, Today the Senate Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee met with women business leaders to discuss strategies for job creation, promoting STEM education among women, and how to increase the number of women in leadership roles in the private sector.  The female business leaders frequently expressed their concerns regarding the lack of women in leadership positions and the ways in which women can help improve productivity in various sectors of business.  Senator Begich (AK), Chairman of the Steering and Outreach Committee, hosted the meeting with Senator Coons (DE), the Steering Committee’s Chair of Business Outreach.

“Increasing the amount of women in leadership roles in business is crucial to improving our economy,” Senator Begich said.  “Helping foster STEM education and workforce training for women can help both the private sector and the American economy thrive.  Our current women business leaders serve as examples of success in these areas as well as role models for young women. I was honored to be joined by a fellow Alaskan Sophie Minich, who is the President and CEO of CIRI Cook Inlet Region, Inc.  She has been doing great work in improving Alaska’s energy and resource development, tourism industry, and real estate development.”

Senate Democrats expressed the need for Congress to help find ways to continue to build relationships with the business community, specifically with women business leaders, which would increase opportunities for diversity and strengthen our economy.
