Rahall Announces Grant Opportunities for Firefighter Funding

Continuing his efforts to support local fire departments, U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall (D-W.Va.) Thursday announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will soon be accepting applications to its Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program.

The AFG program awards grants directly to fire departments and Emergency Medical Service (EMS) organizations to obtain the tools and resources necessary to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public, as well as that of first-responder personnel.  AFG funding can be used to hire staff and personnel and obtain much-needed emergency response equipment and training, as well as emergency vehicles.

The application period will open on Monday, November 3, at 8:00 a.m. and closes on Friday, December 5, at 5:00 p.m. Get Ready Guides and application materials are available at www.fema.gov/firegrants.

Rahall Announces Funding for West Virginia Reading Programs

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) is offering grants, ranging from $2,500 to $20,000, to support community wide-reading programs that facilitate and encourage reading.          

Organizations selected to participate in the NEA’s “Big Read” receive a grant, access to online training resources and opportunities, and educational and promotional materials designed to support widespread community involvement.  Eligible applicants include organizations such as libraries, museums, colleges and universities, art centers, historical societies, humanities councils, literary festivals, and arts organizations.

Rahall Announces Funding for W.Va. Volunteer Service Program

The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) is accepting grant applications from West Virginia organizations interested in recruiting national service volunteers to help address local needs.

The CNCS funding can be used for six national focus areas identified in the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act: disaster services, economic opportunity, education, environmental stewardship, healthy futures, and veterans and military families.  Organizations eligible to apply include public or private nonprofit organizations, including faith-based and labor organizations, as well as institutions of higher education and government entities.
