Senator Debbie Stabenow, Chairwoman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, will convene a Committee hearing on Tuesday, April 8 at 10:00 a.m. in room 328A of the Russell Senate Office Building. The hearing, Advanced Biofuels: Creating Jobs and Lower Prices at the Pump, will examine the role domestically-produced, advanced, non-food based biofuels are playing in creating jobs and strengthening the rural economy.
The Senate overwhelmingly passed the bipartisan Farm Bill on February 4, 2014 with a vote of 68-32. The bill was signed into law by President Obama, February 7th, 2014. The Farm Bill will help grow the nation's economy, and reduce the national deficit by $23 billion.
This is the first public meeting of the Senate and House conferees to consider the 2013 Farm Bill. The meeting will be held on the House side of the Capitol and will feature opening statements from conferees as well as discussion of the legislation. Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet, Chairman of the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Conservation, Forestry and Natural Resources, will convene a Subcommittee hearing on Tuesday, November 5 at 2:30 p.m. EST in room 328 of the Russell Senate Office Building. The hearing, “Shortchanging Our Forests: How Tight Budgets and Management Decisions Can Increase the Risk of Wildfire,” will feature testimony from local Colorado business representatives from wildfire-affected areas. Jim Hubbard, the Deputy Chief of the U.S. Forest Service and former Colorado State Forester from 1984-2004, will also testify.

The hearing will feature testimony from market participants and stakeholders who will address issues related to the Commodity Exchange Act and the CFTC generally. Stabenow and Cochran also announced that recommendations made by the public and stakeholders regarding CFTC reauthorization are now public and available for viewing on the Committee’s website here. The letters were submitted following a request made in March by Stabenow and Cochran for the public to weigh in on the process.
