#OnThisDay in 1818, Illinois became the 21st state. John McLean, who McLean County is named after, would be the first to represent Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives. Less than 30 years later, President Abraham Lincoln would serve his first and only term in Congress. This plaque, on display in the old House chambers, marks the area where Lincoln's desk sat during his time representing Illinois' 7th District. Happy statehood day!
