Washington, DC- Congressman Steve King returned to Washington yesterday, resolved to continue his work on the 2012 Farm Bill and to encourage his House colleagues to bring the bill to the House Floor for a vote. In light of the urgency of passing a farm bill before the end of the year, Congressman King released the following statement:

"I'm back in Washington and anxious to get back to work on the many important issues facing this Lame Duck session of Congress," said King. "Among these is the Farm Bill. I will continue to work with Chairman Lucas, my colleagues on the Agriculture Committee and House Leadership to push for a vote on the version of the Farm Bill passed back in July by the House Agriculture Committee.

Our farmers and producers need predictability going into next year. They shouldn't have to fear the possibility of the current Farm Bill expiring and reverting back to arcane agriculture laws. While it is not uncommon for Farm Bills to be extended several times before a new Farm Bill is passed, it is my hope that we can avoid extensions and pass the House Farm Bill in the Lame Duck session. Then we can work to iron out the differences with the Senate bill in a conference committee and get a final bill to the President's desk so it can be signed into law."
