Academy Nominations

US Senator John Barrasso is able to nominate up to ten young people annually to compete for each vacancy at four of the US Service Academies. Nominations are based on:

  • Wyoming resident, 17 – 22 years of age
  • Receipt of application form and all required information
  • Academic record.
  • Results of Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) and/ or American College Testing (ACT) scores. While only one set of scores is necessary, it is highly recommended that applicants take both the SAT and ACT
  • Evaluation of leadership and community service (extra-curricular activities, student offices held, awards, community involvement, etc.)
  • At least 3 letters of recommendation from a variety of sources (school officials, teachers, coaches, community leaders, etc.)

Following nomination, final selection and appointment is made by each service academy based on character, scholarship and test scores, leadership, physical and medical fitness, motivation, and suitability for a military career.

Please complete the enclosed application and return it, along with a photo and detailed letter about yourself describing your motivation for attending a service academy, activities, offices held in school and other organizations, hobbies, interests, employment and awards.
