Energy Summit

Dear Friend,

Governor Phil Bryant hosted a seminar yesterday at the Jackson Convention Complex in Jackson, Miss., to unveil his energy agenda and promote the Magnolia State as a national leader in energy and economic development.

The one-day event included presentations by industry experts and public officials. As a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, I was privileged to offer remarks on national energy and environmental policy.

As gas prices continue to fluctuate amid uncertainty in the Middle East, the president remains out of touch with the American people. Instead of rejecting pipeline projects, slowing the approval for new drilling permits, threatening to tap fuel reserves, and over-regulating coal operations to their ultimate collapse, the Obama administration should be promoting increased domestic energy production from oil, renewables, natural gas, clean coal technology and nuclear power – ultimately leading to an energy independent America.

This is just what House Republicans have done. Empowering innovators and harnessing our domestic energy capabilities will help lower gas prices and get folks back to work. Accordingly, our initiatives aim to stabilize fuel prices and build a steady supply of natural gas, while generating good paying energy industry jobs.

I appreciate Governor Bryant’s foresight on energy issues and believe that his vision for Mississippi will help our state and nation take another step towards energy independence. Together, we can educate tomorrow’s leaders, develop revolutionary technologies and build innovative infrastructures to meet our energy demands.
