As your U.S. Representative, Congressman Gregg Harper is working to be actively involved in sponsoring and drafting legislation about issues that are important to you. Please contact Congressman Harper's office to share your thoughts on current legislation that may affect you, your family and your community.

Common Myths v. Facts

Myth: The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2012 allows for the military detention of U.S. citizens.

Fact: The NDAA specifically exempts U.S. citizens from the detainee provision. The Heritage Foundation published an informative issues brief explaining this provision. Additionally, the House Armed Services Committee has posted a Detention Policy Resource Kit on their website, which includes various fact sheets, letters, congressional testimonies and news articles that confirm this truth.

Myth: H.R. 347, the "Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011," gives the Secret Service the authority to arrest citizens who protest against the president.

Fact: This law clarifies that "those who knowingly enter or remain in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority" are subject to legal recourse. The Committee on the Judiciary's legislative report explains this truth in detail.
