WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. Senators Mark Pryor and John Boozman, along with Congressman Tim Griffin (AR-2) announced that the Senate passed legislation designating the United States Postal Service facility in Rose Bud, Arkansas as the Nicky ‘Nick’ Daniel Bacon Post Office.  The provision, which was first introduced by Griffin, passed the House in July and will now head to the President for his signature.

“Nick Bacon served our country with unwavering dedication and courage, and I’m proud to dedicate this Post Office in his honor,” Pryor said. “This designation is a small step we can take to honor his contributions and impact on our country and state.”

“This Post Office will be a permanent reminder of the service and sacrifice of Nick Bacon,” Boozman said. “Nick was a hero not only on the battlefield but also by the way he lived his life serving others. He was a champion of veterans’ causes and always had the veteran at heart. This will continue to remind us all of Nick’s heroism, and lifelong appreciation for this country and the men and women who defend it.”

“I applaud the Senate for passing my bill to honor one of Arkansas’s finest sons. Nick Bacon dedicated his life to serving our country. He earned the Medal of Honor for his distinguished service in Vietnam and assisted fellow veterans for decades afterward.  Nick Bacon’s example is one all Arkansans can admire, and I’m pleased the Senate has joined the House in honoring his legacy,” Griffin said.

At the age of 17, Nick Bacon forged his mother’s signature to enlist in the military. During the Vietnam War, Bacon served as first sergeant in the U.S. Army. In 1969, he received the Medal of Honor for his actions in Tam Ky, Vietnam. He later received the Distinguished Service Cross, the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Stars, and a Purple Heart medal. Following a long battle with cancer, Bacon passed away on July 17, 2010. Nick was the last living Medal of Honor recipient from Arkansas who served in Vietnam.
