SUMMARY OF MAIN PROVISIONS

The Combating Autism Reauthorization Act (as incorprated in P.L. 112-32):

  • Amends the Public Health Service Act to extend and reauthorize through FY2014 the surveillance and research program for autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities;
  • Extends and reauthorizes through FY2014 the education, early detection, and intervention program for autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities;
  • Extends and reauthorizes through FY2014 the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee.
  • Authorizes appropriations for years 2011 through 2014 for continuing the Developmental Disabilities Surveillance and Research Program, Autism Education, Early Detection, and Intervention, and the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee.
  • Authorizes appropriations annually through 2014 of up to $22 million for surveillance through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC);
  • Authorizes appropriations annually through 2014 of up to $48 million for early detection, professional training and the development of effective interventions through the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA); and
  • Authorizes appropriations annually through 2014 of up to $161 million for autism research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
