COMMERCE

Public Works and Economic Adjustment Assistance Programs

Administered By: Economic Development Administration (EDA), U.S. Department of Commerce
Eligibility: EDA is not authorized to provide grants to individuals or to for-profit entities. Such requests will not be considered for funding. Eligible applicants for EDA assistance under the Public Works and Economic Adjustment Assistance programs include a(n): (i) District Organization of a designated Economic Development District; (ii) Indian Tribe or a consortium of lndian Tribes; (iii) State, city, or other political subdivision of a State, including a special purpose unit of a State or local government engaged in economic or infrastructure development activities, or a consortium of political subdivisions; (iv) institution of higher education or a consortium of institutions of higher education; or (v) public or private non-profit organization or association acting in cooperation with officials of a political subdivision of a State.
Description: Grants made under these programs will leverage regional assets to support the implementation of regional economic development strategies designed to create jobs, leverage private capital, encourage economic development, and strengthen America's ability to compete in the global marketplace. Under this FFO, EDA solicits applications from rural and urban communities to develop initiatives that advance new ideas and creative approaches to address rapidly evolving economic conditions.

ENERGY

SunShot Solar Energy Evolution and Diffusion Studies (SEEDS)

Eligibility: Unrestricted
Description: Up to $9 million invested over three years to support research on solar energy innovation dynamics and technology adoption patterns. The Department of Energy seeks to launch systematic methods that will result in viable methods for transforming solar energy operations.

Terrestrial Ecosystem Science

Eligibility: Unrestricted – All types of entities are eligible to apply, except Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) Contractors, and nonprofit organizations described in section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 that engaged in lobbying activities after December 31 1995.
Description: This grant opportunity highlights the importance of understanding non-managed terrestrial ecosystems in the context of a changing climate. The goal of the Terrestrial Ecosystem Science (TES) program is to improve representation of terrestrial ecosystem processes in Earth system models thereby improving the quality of climate model projections and providing the scientific foundation needed to inform the DOE's energy decisions. Applications will be considered based on measurements, experiments, modeling and synthesis that provide improved quantitative and predictive understanding of the terrestrial ecosystem that, in turn, can affect atmospheric greenhouse gas concentration forcing of climate. Additionally, the Earth System Modeling (ESM) Program will consider applicants focused on development and coupling of the Community Earth System Model (CESM) land model component.

Early Career Research Program

Eligibility: Only U.S. academic institutions are eligible to apply. Other Federal agencies, Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) Contractors and nonprofit organizations described in section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 that engaged in lobbying activities after December 31, 1995 are not eligible to apply.
Description: The purpose of this program is to support the development of individual research programs of outstanding scientists early in their careers and to stimulate research careers in the areas supported by DOE Office of Science. This is supported by the following program areas: Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR); Biological and Environmental Research (BER); Basic Energy Sciences (BES), Fusion Energy Sciences (FES); High Energy Physics (HEP), and Nuclear Physics (NP).

FY2012 Global Development Alliance (GDA) Annual Program Statement (APS)

Description: To increase the sustainable impact of our development assistance programs through strategic alliances with the private sector in order to leverage private sector markets, expertise, interests, and assets in a manner that solves critical development problems and promotes effective market led development. Leveraging USAID simultaneously will in turn lead to business success and foster the broader economic growth and poverty reduction that is vital to sustaining such success. In the long-term, the private sector and USAID's collaboration will be better able to increase the impact, reach, efficiency, and effectiveness of our respective investments in developing countries worldwide. The GDA will facilitate and support this collaboration.

Minority AIDS Initiative Targeted Capacity Expansion (MAI-TCE): Integrated Behavioral Health/Primary Care Network Cooperative Agreements

Description:
Expand the availability of effective substance abuse treatment and recovery services available to Americans to improve the lives of those affected by alcohol and drug additions, and reduce the impact of alcohol and drug abuse on individuals, families, communities and societies and to address priority mental health needs of regional and national significance and assist children in dealing with violence and traumatic events through by funding grant and cooperative agreement projects.

Description: This opportunity seeks Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant applications from small business concerns (SBCs) which propose the development and translation of technologies to improve hearing healthcare outcomes. For this grant, applicants must demonstrate that their project seeks to increase utilization of hearing health care technology by underserved patients in an effort to reduce health disparities.

Description: Proposed program projects may address any of the broad areas of cancer research, including (but not limited to) cancer biology, cancer treatment, cancer diagnosis, cancer prevention, and cancer control. Basic, translational, clinical, and/or population-based studies in all of these research areas are appropriate and each application must consist of at least three component projects. The component projects must share a common central theme, focus, and/or overall objective.

Description:
To advance the practice of community policing as an effective strategy in communities' efforts to improve public safety. COPS grants support innovative programs that respond directly to the existing and emerging needs of state, local, and tribal law enforcement, to shift law enforcements focus to preventing, rather than solely responding to crime and disorder within their communities; develop state-of-the-art training and technical assistance to enhance law enforcement officers problem-solving and community interaction skills, promote collaboration between law enforcement and community members to develop innovative initiatives to prevent crime, and provide responsive, cost effective service delivery to our grantees to ensure success in advancing community policing strategies within their communities.

NEA GAP: Art Works Deadline 2, FY2013

Description: The NEA's guiding principle is "Art Works" which supports projects that achieve the four following outcomes: the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts and the strengthening of communities through the arts. You can select one outcome that is most relevant to your project as well as a secondary outcome. If you receive a grant, you will be required to provide evidence that the project achieved the selected outcome. Funding for the project begins on or after June 1, 2013.
