Obtaining Government Publications

Every year, the U.S. government produces many documents that you can obtain at little or no cost. These include: "how to" manuals, research reports, information directories, consumer guides, and much more.

A majority of these documents can be found online through the Government Printing Office website, the websites of federal agencies, and the Library of Congress’ Thomas website.

If you are unable to find what you need online, you can call the following:

  • House of Representatives Document Room – Provides congressional documents free of charge. To obtain materials, call (202) 226-5200.
  • Government Printing Office – Provides government documents, including laws and reports from federal agencies. Fees do apply. To request materials, call (202) 512-1800.
